ZIP Safety Center
1. Rules & Policies
ZIP is a campus-only rideshare community, and safety is our top priority. All actions listed in the Terms of Service (ToS) Code of Conduct (Section 6), including but not limited to harassment, discrimination, scams, reckless driving, alcohol or drugs in the vehicle, and weapons, are strictly prohibited. Riders must not interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle, and Drivers must follow all traffic laws, campus parking rules, and all listed qualifications from the ToS — including possessing a physical driver's license, valid insurance, and any other required documentation. Violations can lead to immediate suspension, ban from your campus ZIP network, and referral to campus safety or law enforcement.
2. Privacy & Security Tips
Your account is tied to your verified .edu email and school enrollment, so never share your password or login code with anyone. Communicate through the ZIP app whenever possible so we can help resolve issues (you can do this by pressing "Settings" in the bottom navigation bar and then selecting the "Support" button). ZIP uses .edu email verification and campus eligibility checks to protect your privacy.
3. Reporting Tools
If you see unsafe or prohibited behavior, report it as soon as possible:
- Email safety@zipcampus.com with details about the incident.
- Include screenshots, trip information, and names if available.
- For life-threatening situations, contact emergency services (911) first.
We store trip information in our secure in-app system so that our support team can help investigate and resolve issues after rides. You can manage and review your stored trip data anytime by tapping "Ride History" in the ZIP app's bottom navigation menu.
4. Support Resources
For emergencies, call 911.
For non-emergency situations, contact your school's campus police or public safety office. Find your school's information about campus police on your school's safety center or public safety website.
For mental health support:
- Call or text 988 (U.S. Suicide & Crisis Lifeline)
- Visit your school's counseling center website for additional counseling and support options
5. Learn & Stay Aware
ZIP is a peer-to-peer platform — we don't employ drivers or handle payments — so it's important to stay alert. Watch for red flags like requests to bypass payment links, repeated no-shows, or attempts to take rides off the platform. Use the 4-digit ride PIN and live GPS sharing features to confirm rides and share your location with friends or family.
6. Checklist Before You Ride
Before you get in the car, take a moment to confirm these safety steps:
- Match the license plate – Make sure the plate on the car matches what's shown in the ZIP app.
- Check the driver's name and photo – Only get in the car with the person listed for your ride.
- Verify the 4-digit ride PIN – Share the code with the driver to confirm the trip.
- Confirm the car type and color – Ensure the make, model, and color match your ride details.
- Share your trip info – Use the app's trip details to send your ride info to a friend or family member.
- Trust your instincts – If something feels wrong, don't get in the car. Cancel the ride and report the issue to safety@zipcampus.co.
7. During Your Ride
- Sit in the back seat for additional safety
- Keep your phone charged and accessible
- Trust your instincts - contact support if something feels wrong
- Be respectful and courteous to your driver
